Context:

The Senior Commercial Manager will assume responsibility for the management of commercial matters relating to Projects to ensure that the Projects on which they have been deployed are delivered successfully, within the approved budget and that it delivers value for money.

This will include client-side support, commercial management of the Systra Ireland Business plan, Design and Build Contracts, managing finances, identifying and managing risk, and resolving disputes.

Missions/Main Duties:

  • Managing contractor, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment (including NEC contracts);
  • Dealing with bespoke NEC terms and conditions;
  • Managing contracts to ensure compliance both by the client and all associated contractors;
  • Preparing estimates and cost planning for high value public sector business case approval;
  • Preparing highly technical cost advice for services and works that are subject to the highest level of security and safety requirements;
  • Generating cost information to support option appraisals and recommendations;
  • Providing cost advise for the inclusion in a priced risk and opportunity register;
  • Apply costs into a cost loaded programme within a work and cost structure;
  • Cost planning work packages;
  • Ensure the production of commercial and financial contract account packs each period across the portfolio of projects & programmes to include cash flow summary, detailed analysis of costs by project, creditor aged analysis, etc.
  • Preparation of Contract Annual Budget and reforecasting, assisting the preparation of Contract annual budget, provide Head of Commercial with budget card and leading the preparation of budget reforecast
  • Managing high – performing staff / teams including carrying out performance management, undertaking resource planning and embedding a focus on continuous improvement and best practice.
  • Identifying and acting upon opportunities to improve cost management procedures, templates and products and hence improve the services provided to clients.
  • Interface with client management and associated audit teams

Profile/Skills:

  • Considerable commercial management experience with experience carrying out management activities across the project lifecycle through to completion in high value road and / or infrastructure projects
  • Ability to successfully lead coordination and delivery on large and complex construction projects;
  • Ability to manage multiple technical requirements and teams within a construction environment;
  • Ability to manage technical outputs to drive efficiency;
  • Fully proficient in the use of MS Office applications and other project tools and methodologies;
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to create a collaborative culture across project teams;
  • Ability to govern and drive outcomes to ensure high quality service delivery;
  • Ability to deal with and resolve unforeseen risks and issues;
  • Excellent stakeholder negotiation and management skills;
  • Strong team leadership skills with an ability to influence to drive effective design decision making;
  • Ability to step back from the detail and take a holistic overview;
  • Ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and deliver consistent service;
  • High level of attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage client expectations and deliver within agreed parameters; and
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment both on their own initiative and as part of a team.
