Start Date: Immediate

Working Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are 8 hours with a 30-minute lunch break. The role operates Monday to Friday, with availability required for 1–2 Saturdays per month on a rotational basis. Time off in lieu is provided for Saturday work.

The clinic is closed on Bank Holidays.

Annual Leave: 22 days annual leave, plus 1 additional day for your birthday. Additional service days can be accrued after one full calendar year of employment, up to a maximum of 27 days per year.

Contract Type: Permanent (following successful completion of a 6-month probation period)

Role Overview: Ophthalmic Nurse
As an Ophthalmic Nurse, you will play a key role in supporting our refractive and general ophthalmology services. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team involved in patient assessments, diagnostics, and surgical procedures. Your responsibilities will fall into three main categories:
  1. Clinical Responsibilities
  • Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing as part of patient workups for consultations.
  • Conduct virtual consultations to gather patient history, surgical motivations, and visual needs prior to their appointments with the surgeon.
  1. Theatre Responsibilities
  • Scrub for cataract, lens, and laser eye surgery in the on-site theatre.
  • Manage patient care on surgery days, including pre-op consent, medication oversight, post-op counselling, and slit lamp exams for discharge.
  • Assist the surgeon during procedures both on-site and at Beacon Hospital, including documenting procedures and ensuring correct IOLs are prepared.
  1. Administrative Responsibilities
  • Respond to patient queries via phone and email.
  • Assist in surgical planning, including IOL calculations for upcoming procedures.

Candidate Requirements
  • Active NMBI registration (Registered General Nurse - RGN)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • A dedicated service-oriented approach
  • Ophthalmic experience is desirable but not essential
